Everyone in NYC is in a rush, time matters to them. If you are heading to a meeting, a party, or a date, you certainly don’t want to be late. We know that passengers can save time on route planning, while subway’s operational efficiency can be further improved. Meanwhile, New York City is a tourist city, subway system is complex, especially for visitors.
There are a lot of overlapping stations for express train (line2, line3) and local train (line1). Hence, it is possible for users to save time by switching from local trains to express trains. Although there are some mobile applications that can generate recommend subway routes already in the market, none of these applications can dynamically help users to decide whether they should switch at a transferable station based on current traffic conditions.
In this project, we build a NYC subway planner web application to recommend fast routes and transfer stations for subway passengers by using machine learning predictions. Our planner is able to generate optimal routes for subway line 1, 2, 3 of both uptown and downtown directions.
